Without further adieu, please welcome Sheila of Brain Power Boy.
Meet Sheila of Brain Power Boy:
Hi Sheila! Please tell us about your blog:
Brain Power Boy is a website dedicated to raising boys who love to learn. Many boys are behind in reading, struggle in school, and don’t get a lot of support. We focus on finding great resources that boys will like to help them really enjoy learning. We provide book lists, activities for boys, learning styles information, homeschool unit studies, articles on how to help boys learn and plenty of LEGO fun as well.
What is your biggest struggle? This can be blogging related or just life in general!
Balance is likely my biggest struggle.
Are you married? How long? Tell us a bit about your spouse.
I have been married for more than 25 years. My husband is a magician and a musician. He has a job outside the home but those are the two things he enjoys the most.
Describe each of your children in one sentence.
I have one son who is unique, determined, kind-hearted and knows his own mind.
Do you have pets? Tell us your favorite pet story!
No, I don’t have any pets.
What would you tell your 17 year old self if you could?
Be fearless.
What would your kids say is your “catch phrase”?
My catch phrase is “small kindnesses matter.”
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Caring. Dedicated. Helpful.
It is 9 pm on a typical weekday evening. Where are you and what are you doing?
Most likely at my desk working on our website.
When it comes to:
Parenting: What would you tell every new mother if given the chance?
I would tell her to trust in her child’s ability to learn. Children are curious and want to know about the world. Mothers should try to follow their child’s lead and help them explore the world in the way that works best for the child. I would also tell her to provide resources on topics her children are interested in and to always be respectful and kind.
Beauty: Share your best make up/ beauty trick!
Beauty is an inner quality. Be beautiful by being kind and giving.
Fashion: What is the one fashion accessory that every woman should own?
Confidence.
Passions: What are you passionate about?
Helping parents, grandparents, teachers and others help the boys in their lives. My other passions are homeschooling and natural learning.
Hobbies: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Reading, researching, crafting and frugal living.
This is your blogging story and our shameless plug :)!
How long have you been blogging?
For about 2 years.
How did you find Learn to Blog?
Through YouTube. I found the Learn to Blog Hangouts and couldn’t wait until the next one came out each week.
What is your favorite post, challenge, series, or video from Learn to Blog Hangouts?
My favorite challenge so far is in the VIP forum – the Pinterest section in the January Pageviews Challenge.
What is one blogging tip that changed your life? Where did you learn it?
The one blogging tip that helped me the most was how to set up a post with proper SEO. I learned it through the Learn to Blog Class (the class is great and I highly recommend it.)
Sheila’s Favorite Blog Posts:
Brain Power Boy is filled to the brim with activities, projects, printables, book reviews, encouragement for parents, and much more. Here’s a sample of Sheila’s favorites:
Give Your Boy the Gift of Time. There is nothing boys need more than time to do the things that are important to them. Time with our sons is fleeting. Childhood is short. We need to make sure to give them our time and plenty of time to enjoy being young.
LEGO Learning: What They Learn When They Play. I believe so much can be learned through play. Click through to see all that boys learn just by playing with a toy they really love – LEGO!
What to do if Your Boy Hates Reading. I worked in libraries for over 15 years and it always makes me sad to hear about a boy who says he hates to read. This post is for anyone who knows boys who don’t like reading. It shares ways to help them move from hating reading to loving to read.
